Evaluation Question 6

While working on our coursework production we have learnt a number of things about technology.

When making a flash animation its best to make it as simple as possible and add all the effects such as fading in the software you plan to export it to, also take a screenshot of the last frame as it may get lost during the exporting process.

When taking pictures its best to give the camera extra time to focus even when you think the image looks fine on screen as demonstrated by this picture.

When making an animation such as an ident and importing it into final cut pro its best to check the resolution quality beforehand or it may look more pixelated than the screen/image actually shows, this happened to our ident and lead to us remaking it.

Sometimes when the audio you want to use does not go in sync with the video its a good idea to speed up or slow it down but not too much as the clip may end up sound a lot different than it initially did.

Software such as Soundtrack Pro can provide lots of sound effects which I can use in my production without having to pay royalties and licensing costs which really helped us in the production.

Using the stage lights we are now able to eliminate shadows or create shadows where we want them to be, we also learnt that stage lights get very hot in a short amount of time and thus should be left alone for some time before being packed away.

We now know how to make appropriate title cards using the text tools provided in final cut pro which can be easily accessed by clicking on the A symbol under the canvas video player.

We also learnt how to make a movie title in Livetype however we did not use it in our final production instead we opted for just using the text tools in final cut pro.

We also learnt that footage can look much better on camera than it does on screen for example here we wanted to have the footage shake a bit to give it a point of view effect however it ended up shaking a lot more when we watched it on a proper sceen.

Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our media product focuses on the "working class" social group, we tried to represent this as best as possible in our media production, setting the the main segment in a highstreet cafe, not having any formal way of speech and having the characters act confident and hands on, to give the "these people are serious and they know what they are doing" feel.

My partner also wrote about how he thought we represented social groups:

Evaluation Question 3

Question 3 found on my partners blog.

Evaluation Question 1

Question 1 part 1: Use of conventions

In our product we tried to use forms and conventions of real media by having our main location a normal cafĂ© in town, which is typical in our genre of movies as shown by reservoir dogs and pulp fiction, we also tried to have our main characters personalities contrast to make them unique, which again is demonstrated in reservoir dogs where all characters are in some way different and have their own original views on events in the movie. Our second location, the bank is also a convention used in our genre of movie as it almost always makes an appearance in heist films.  Our product also features violence, a convention that is usually most prominent in the mid to late part of a film.

Group feedback and Potential audience

In Todays lesson we went through all the work the groups did on their 2 minute introduction and gave feedback on what they could do to improve it.

The feedback we got was:
Insert the ident and titlecards and possibly refilm some of our footage including the bank heist.

Here is also research into the potential audience for our film:

Todays Lesson

In todays lesson I tried to make the ident I made before worthy for our final production however there has been a problem with the quality (the ident itself was pixelated) and the beginning segment (the ident already featured text however I was planning to have the text fade in an animation) both which cant be fixed in final cut, this means I have to remake it, though this means I can improve on it or just make a completely new ident.

Todays Lesson

Today during lesson we filmed the footage to cross cut between our main conversation footage, we had problems with a lack a of props, and a proper filming location meaning we had to improvise however I think it still went better than it could have.
